marble bust, raised on a socle and plinth base, inscribed to base ROBERT BURNS, FILLANS 64cm tall Note: An exciting new discovery of 19th Century Marble bust of Robert Burns by James Fillans (27 March 1808 – 27 September 1852) Fillans was a Scottish sculptor, poet and artist with a short but influential career in the early 19th century. The sculpture was discovered languishing in a garden in the West Midland for over thirty years. There are examples of the artist’s work, in the collections of Glasgow Museums Resource, Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Pollock House, Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Dumfries Museum and Camera Obscura. It is believed that the National Trust for Scotland hold a plaster version of this same sculpture.
