Description
FRANK ALGERNON STEWART (1877-1945) "1937 Spencer's Spinney, Thorpe", study of huntsmen and women and hounds by fence, watercolour heightened with body colour and white, signed lower left, bear typed inscriptions to mount "Miss Inge on Spark", "Miss Edith Inge on Up Jenkins", "Luke Lillington Esq. MFH on Bay Leaf" and "Mrs Inge on Glamour", together with two letters to Mrs Inge from the artist on letterheaded paper for Rathlin Pittville Circus Cheltenham, dated 11th April 1939 discussing the lending of said picture for an exhibition on 17th April, typed but signed by the artist, together with another dated 8th September 1939 referring to the picture once more and some personal opinions on the effect of the war, both upon his painting of similar scenes and on the world in general, 33 cm x 64 cm
CONDITION REPORTS
Not inspected out of frame or glass. The picture itself has a slight brown tinge throughout however believe this is to do with the palette and not anything else. However, the mount is quite discoloured and has signs of insects being previously in there although it looks as though it has been cleaned more recently, however still in need of a clean. Some small losses to the frame throughout, general wear and tear conducive with age and use - see images for more details
