Five: Sapper C. Smith, Royal Engineers 1914-15 Star (31431 Spr. C. Smith. R.E.); British War and Victory Medals (31431 Spr. C. Smith. R.E.); Coronation 1911, unnamed as issued; Army L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (26691 Sapr. C. Smith. R.E.) mounted court-style for display, light contact marks, good very fine (5) £120-£160 --- Charles Smith was born in Sevenoaks, Kent, in 1870 and attested for the Royal Engineers in London on 24 May 1892. He served with them overseas in Ceylon from 7 May 1900 to 14 October 1901, and in Gibraltar from 10 February 1906 to 3 October 1910, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal with Gratuity per Army Order 254 of October 1910. Subsequently awarded the 1911 Coronation Medal, he was discharged on 23 May 1913, after 21 years’ service. Re-enlisting into the Royal Engineers at Chatham on 1 September 1914, Smith served with 12 Company during the Great War on the Western Front from 11 August 1915 to 1 January 1916. He was discharged on 8 December 1918, no longer physically fit for War Service,after a further 4 years and 99 days’ service, and was awarded a Silver War Badge. Sold with copied service papers and other research.

If you are successful in purchasing lot/s being auctioned by us and opt for the item/s to be sent to you, we will use the following methods of shipment:

Within the UK
If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.

Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.

Shipping Exceptions
Certain lots such as those containing glass or sharp implements, etc., may not be suitable for in-house shipping within or outside of the UK. Please contact Noonans with any queries.
