Approximately 285 Medals to H.M.S. Satellite.
Edwin Thomas Bonney was born in Newpassage, Devon in 1841. He joined the Royal Navy, and was serving as Captains Coxswain with H.M.S. Satellite when he died as a result of an accident aboard ship in February 1869. The ship had been battered by heavy seas whilst on passage from Vancouver to Japan, and had suffered damage to the rigging and steering. The ropes from the tiller to the rudder had been shredded and Bonney was killed whilst reeving new ropes. The accident occurred when the ship was 47 degrees North and 177 degrees West in the Pacific, and Bonney was buried at sea. His campaign medal was forwarded to his father, William Bonney, 24 June 1870.
