George Henry E. Sandford was born at Mark, Somerset, on 3 November 1848, and entered the Navy as a Boy 2nd class aboard H.M.S. Duncan on 2 April 1863. He joined Pylades as Boy 1st class on 2 November 1864, serving in this ship until 7 November 1866. He advanced to Ordinary Seaman 2nd class in Zebra in November 1866, and to Able Seaman in April 1867. His subsequent ships included Duke of Wellington, Hercules and Triumph, in which ship be became Ship’s Corporal 2nd class in December 1873, and Jumna, which ship he joined in September 1875, was advanced to Ship’s Corporal 1st class, and was awarded his L.S. & G.C. medal in December 1875. Noted as ‘worthy of advancement - very trustworthy and steady’, and with character always ‘exemplary’ or occasionally ‘very good’, he was appointed Master at Arms aboard the Duke of Wellington in March 1883. After further service, he was finally shore pensioned from St Vincent on 2 March 1887.
Sold with copied record of service and medal roll claim for C.G.S. which was made in September 1900. He was then living at Bodmin, Cornwall, where he died in 1933.

Within the UK
If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.
Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.
Shipping Exceptions
Certain lots such as those containing glass or sharp implements, etc., may not be suitable for in-house shipping within or outside of the UK. Please contact Noonans with any queries.
