Bertram James Thomas Harrison was born at Valetta, Malta, on 11 November 1900, the son of an Army soldier, and originally attested for the Royal Engineers as a boy solider on 12 June 1916, before transferring to the Royal Signals on its inception on 5 August 1920. He served with them in India from 31 December 1921 to 8 April 1929, seeing active service during the operations in Waziristan, and was advanced Company Quartermaster Sergeant on 1 April 1934. Following the outbreak of the Second World War he was posted to the 2nd East Anglian Divisional Signals, and was commissioned Lieutenant (Quartermaster) on 8 December 1940. Proceeding to Malaya to service with the 3rd Indian Corps Signals, he was captured and taken Prisoner of War at the Fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942. He was held at various Japanese Prisoner of War camps, including Changi, Wang Lan, Tha Kilem, Wang Pho, 220 Kilo, and 249 Kilo, and was repatriated in late 1945. Remaining in the Regular Forces, was promoted Captain (Quartermaster) on 22 January 1946, and Major (Quartermaster) on 28 December 1948. He died in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on 13 September 1973.

If you are successful in purchasing lot/s being auctioned by us and opt for the item/s to be sent to you, we will use the following methods of shipment:
Within the UK
If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.
Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.
Shipping Exceptions
Certain lots such as those containing glass or sharp implements, etc., may not be suitable for in-house shipping within or outside of the UK. Please contact Noonans with any queries.
