James Collinson was born at Guisborough, Yorkshire, in 1863 and attested for the Royal Horse Artillery at Huntingdon on 19 March 1885. He served with them in Egypt from 29 December 1885 to 21 March 1887, and was promoted Corporal Wheeler on 23 November 1891, and Sergeant Wheeler on 1 April 1898. He saw further service with ‘J’ Battery in India from 14 October 1897 to 10 January 1900, and then with the same unit in South Africa during the Boer War from 11 January 1900 to 1 October 1902. Recommended for the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal, for consistent good work in the field, he was instead Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 10 September 1901), and was promoted Wheeler Staff Sergeant on 19 June 1902.
Returning to India on 2 October 1902, Collinson was promoted Wheeler Quartermaster Sergeant on 18 October 1904, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal per Army Order 75 of 1904, before returning to the U.K. on 20 January 1905. He suffered a severely fractured radius whilst on duty in England on 14 July 1905, and was discharged on 18 March 1906, after 21 years’ service. He was later an in-pensioner of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea.

Within the UK
If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.
Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.
Shipping Exceptions
Certain lots such as those containing glass or sharp implements, etc., may not be suitable for in-house shipping within or outside of the UK. Please contact Noonans with any queries.
