Edition of 10. Mods and rockers were two conflicting British youth subcultures of the late 1950s to mid 1960s. Rockers, with their tribal headquarters at the Ace Café in Park Royal and their roots in rock ‘n roll and rhythm and blues music, faced mods, who took Carnaby street as their spiritual home, dressed smartly and listened to modern jazz, soul and Tamla Motown music. Frequent skirmishes between groups of them culminated in riots at southern seaside towns, including Clacton, Margate and especially Brighton, in May 1964
