The Langham Hoard of four Antoninianii


Multiple Roman Lots, 1. Valerian, Antoninianus, Lugdunum, 258-9, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, valerianvs p f avg around, rev. Sol, radiate, standing front with head left, raising right hand and holding globe in left hand, oriens avgg around, 3.25g/7h (RIC 13c; RSC 140b).
2. Salonina, Antoninianus, Lugdunum, 257-8, diademed and draped bust right, on crescent, salonina avg around, rev. Venus, veiled and draped, seated left, holding apple in right hand and sceptre in left hand, child at feet, venvs fel[ix] around, 2.72g/12h (RIC 7; RSC 115).
3. Salonina, Antoninianus, Lugdunum, 257-8, diademed and draped bust right, on crescent, [salonina avg] around, rev. Venus, veiled and draped, seated left, holding apple in right hand and sceptre in left hand, child at feet, [venvs felix] around, 2.35g/12h (RIC 7; RSC 115).
4. Salonina, Antoninianus, Lugdunum, 257-8, diademed, draped bust right, on crescent, [salonina avg] around, rev. Juno, draped, standing left, holding patera in right hand and sceptre in left hand, ivn[–] around, 3.18g (cf. RIC 29-31; cf. RSC 60ff). First about fine, others poor to fair £30-£40

Provenance: The hoard was discovered in 2017 near Langham, Norfolk, and recorded with the Portable Antiquities Scheme (NMS-65F67B; 2023 T915). Radiates (otherwise known as Antoninianii) of this period are unusual as stray finds, as such these coins likely represent a small hoard or purse loss. The date of loss or deposition would have been during the late 250s or early 260s.

Within the UK
If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.

Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.
