Description
Lanark Mills was founded out of the partnership made in 1783 between the Glasgow industrialist David Dale (1739-1806), and Sir Richard Arkwright (1732-92), the Derbyshire engineer. The original mill opened in 1785 but burnt down three years later; subsequently rebuilt and with a second mill in full operation, the profitable operation of the business was thwarted by the Napoleonic wars and Dale sold out in 1799 to his son-in-law, the social reformer Robert Owen.

The five shilling issue is the most plentiful of the whole countermarked series - the number of surviving specimens suggesting that they were produced over a number of years but due to fluctuations in the price of silver, probably out of circulation by c. 1820 [Manville pp.144-5].

If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.
