Dadabhai Naoroji was one of the pioneers of the Indian independence movement who explained how steadily and clinically the British were emptying India's wealth and poverty. This drain theory was used as a rallying point for anti-British protests and nationalist mobilization. Dadabhai Naoroji was the first to state in his book that poverty in India was caused by colonial control which was draining the country's wealth and prosperity.
