Sunil Madhav Sen (1910 - 1979)
Mixed Media on Paper
10 x 7.5 Inches
Signed Lower Right
This work reflects Sunil Madhav Sen’s deep engagement with the folk visual traditions of Bengal. The two birds, rendered in crisp lines and primary colours, echo the rhythm and symmetry found in patachitra scrolls and ritual motifs like alpona. Sen spent his early years in Bankura, a region steeped in handmade art forms, and these influences shaped his visual vocabulary throughout his life. He continued to draw from this early memory-bank of forms, patterns, and rhythms rooted in rural culture.
