Sunil Madhav Sen (1910 - 1979)
Watercolour on Paper
25 x 11 Inches
Signed Lower Left
Sunil Madhav Sen often drew from the living imagery of his childhood Bengal: folk toys, village animals, and playful motifs. He reshaped them through the modernist lens he cultivated as a self-taught painter.
Here, two cat-like figures stand side by side, their mask-like faces and stitched tails echoing both local craft traditions and Sen’s fascination with folk/ tribal forms. The flattened planes, strong outlines, and stylised patterning reflect how he blended European modernist influences with the earthy charm of Rarh Bengal’s everyday sights.
