Reynolds Beal (1866 - 1951)"At the Circus" Pair. Colored Pencil. Sight Size: 11 x 15 inches. Born in New York City in 1867 , he showed artistic talent at an early age. He attended Cornell University and graduated with a naval architecture degree. He immediately turned to fine arts, traveling and studying in Europe. Returning to America in 1890 he studied under William M. Chase. Beal had his first one man show in 1905; he was elected as an associate member of the national academy of design in 1909 and was one of the founders of the Society of Independent artist and the new society of artists. Graced with independent means, Beal was able to do extensive travelling. Beal's colors are bright, fresh and light and his subjects are often of the sea and or the circus.
