Pair Chinese Yunnan Province Pine Folding Chairs

Description
These 19th century chairs were an adaptation of a very early form, evolving from folding stools in the 11th century. This pair features intricately carved and pierced slats with dragon and floral motifs, on the curved yokebacks. They also have small footrests, indigenous to the form. Sporting a Chinese red lacquer finish, they have cloth woven seats. One footrest has been replaced (see photos).
