Francesco Antonio Simonini (1686 - 1753) "The Expulsion of the Turks from Austria, 1683". Oil on canvas, mounted on board, Sight Size: 17.25 x 21.75 inches. At a young age Simonini displayed talents as a painter and at the expense of the Grand Duke of Parma, he was sent to Florence (now Belqium/Holland) to study. In fact, there is every chance that he met with Courtois en route to or from Italy, as Courtois was at that time living at Versailles working on a vast series of panels for Louis XIV and The Regent commemorating great Western European Battles. Upon Returning to Italy, he worked at the Court of Parma, then was lent to the Papal Court at Rome, and he worked almost exclusively on landscape and especially on battle scenes. His paintings are in most major collections and museums. The Barringer painting was purchased in Europe (probably in Spain) in the 1840's by minister D. Moreau Barringer, and belongs to J. Paul Barringer. Painting comes with 1981 Appraisal (see photo)
