Title: Ballycastle Bay, Co. Mayo (2021) Medium: Acrylic on Paper Signature: Signed and Dated Lower Left; Inscribed Verso Provenance: Private Collection Framed A vivid and atmospheric painting, depicting waves crashing against a rocky coastline, Ballycastle Bay is a classic work by Donald Teskey, capturing the essence of the Mayo coastline after a storm. Laying on paint using brush, palette knife and other implements,Teskey’s skill and sensitivity to colour results in an artwork full of drama and energy. Born in Rathkeale, Co. Limerick in 1956, Teskey studied at the Limerick School of Art from 1974 to 1978. Two years later, his first one-person exhibition was held at the Lincoln Gallery in Dublin. In 1984 he was one of the artists selected by Lucy Lippard for the international touring exhibition Divisions, Crossroads, Turns of Mind. After a decade-long gap, and following an inspirational period at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, in 1996 Teskey began to focus on rural rather than urban subjects, painting landscapes rather than the human figure. His style of painting became more expressionistic, and in a series of seascapes he conveyed the grandeur and epic qualities of the north Mayo coastline. He has also made painting trips to West Cork. Based in Dublin, Teskey was elected a member of the RHA in 2003 and Aosdána in 2006. Dr. Peter Murray, August 2025 Image: 76 x 105 cm. Framed: 97 x 126 cm.
