Executed in watercolour, the composition depicts a peaceful rural scene with two large, mature trees flanking a shaded path that opens onto a panoramic view of farmland and cottages beyond. Figures resting on the grass, lending a narrative element to the serene setting. The piece is masterfully composed and richly atmospheric, showcasing Faulkner’s precision and warmth in handling natural light and foliage. Presented in an ornate gilt frame. A regular exhibitor at the Royal Hibernian Academy from 1852, Faulkner is celebrated for his finely observed rural and coastal landscapes, often suffused with gentle light and subtle detail.
