Title: Copse (C. 1950s) Medium: Watercolour Signature: Signed Lower Left Provenance: Private Collection Framed Lot Description: A lively and expressive watercolour by Gerard Dillon, titled Copse. The composition presents a stylised woodland scene with abstracted trees and a meandering forest floor, rendered in bold washes of green, brown, and blue. Dillon’s distinctive modernist style is evident in the rhythmic brushwork and whimsical treatment of natural forms. Signed lower left and presented in a simple wooden frame with mount. Image size: 24 x 30 cm.; framed: 50 x 56 cm. PICTURES AND PRINTS Tuesday 16th September 2025 20:32:30 Biography GERARD DILLON RHA RUA (1916 - 1971) Gerard Dillon was a leading Irish painter known for his poetic, imaginative depictions of Irish life, often infused with surreal or symbolic elements. Born in Belfast, he spent time living and working in Connemara and Dublin. His naïve but deeply expressive visual language was admired in both modernist and nationalist circles. Dillon exhibited widely, including with the Irish Exhibition of Living Art, and his works are represented in all major Irish public collections.
