Title: Madonna and Child Medium: Limestone Sculpture Signature: Unsigned Provenance: Private Collection Lot Description: Carved Irish limestone sculpture in an abstract modernist style, depicting a stylised standing figure in a stooped, embracing pose, cradling a spherical form symbolising the infant. The smooth, flowing contours and pared-back anatomy convey an archetypal tenderness, while the monumental simplicity recalls the work of mid-century modernists such as Henry Moore and Hilary Heron. The use of Irish limestone links the piece to Ireland’s enduring stone-carving tradition, from medieval devotional figures to contemporary abstraction.
