Presented in a deep-profile gilt frame with inner slip. Image: 22 x 17 cm.; Framed: 36 x 30 cm. PICTURES AND PRINTS Tuesday 16th September 2025 21:32:30 Biography MARTIN MOONEY (B. 1960) Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Martin Mooney studied at Brighton College of Art & Design and completed a Master’s in Fine Art painting at the Slade School of Fine Art. His technical skill and respect for historical artistic traditions earned him admiration from his Slade tutors, including Euan Uglow and Sir Lawrence Gowing. Since his first solo exhibition, Mooney has held numerous sell-out shows in Dublin, London, Toronto, and New York. His work is characterized by glazed layers and a luminous, golden quality. Whether depicting Dublin, Venice, Girona, or Donegal, he consistently captures architecture, countryside, and still life using enriched tones, deep reds, and pale blues. In a 2007 exhibition at James Adam Auctioneers in Dublin, Mooney explored looser floral still lifes and Donegal landscapes, expanding his range and embracing new challenges. Now based in rural Donegal, his landscapes are influenced by plein air painting, featuring dynamic cloud formations, unexpected colour accents, and a heightened sense of fluidity and freedom in composition.
