Title: Castle in the West (1950) Medium: Watercolour Signature: Signed and Dated Lower Right Provenance: Private Collection Framed Lot Description: Desmond Carrick RHA (1928–2012), Castle in the West (1950), watercolour on paper, signed lower right. A serene coastal scene rendered in Carrick’s soft, atmospheric palette, depicting a broad strand at low tide with scattered pools of water reflecting a pale sky. Figures can be seen walking along the beach and near small boats drawn up on the sand, adding life and scale to the composition. A silhouetted castle-like structure—possibly inspired by Doonagore Castle, Doolin, or another west coast landmark—anchors the distant headland. Framed in a gilt-edged frame with a double cream mount. Image: 24.5 x 33 cm.: Framed: 50 x 55.5 cm. PICTURES AND PRINTS Tuesday 16th September 2025 18:30:00 Biography DESMOND CARRICK RHA (1928 - 2012) Desmond Carrick RHA was a highly respected Irish landscape painter and art educator. Known for his distinctive brushwork and vibrant use of colour, Carrick captured both Irish and continental landscapes with lyrical clarity. He served as President of the Royal Hibernian Academy and lectured at the National College of Art and Design, leaving a lasting legacy in Irish visual arts.
