Paul Ayshford Methuen, 4th Baron Methuen (English, 1886-1974) View of the City from Hay's Wharf Oil on board Signed 'Methuen' lower left With Leicester Galleries stickers verso  Provenance: Leicester Galleries, June 1943, no. 34; Harold Alexander, 1st Earl Alexander of Tunis (1891-1969), purchased from the above Property of the West India Committee Harold Alexander was one of the most important Allied generals of the Second World War who, in 1943, was Commander-in-Chief Middle East and and in charge of the 18th Army Group in Tunisia. In May 1943 the Axis forces surrendered to the Allied forces in Tunisia, with Alexander telegramming Churchill "...We are masters of the North African shores". By June he was in London, where he purchased this picture.   Dimensions: (Frame) 20.25 in. (H) x 26 in. (W)  (Board) 15.5 in. (H) x 21 in. (W)
