Claude Michel 'Clodion' (French, 1738-1814) Bacchanal c. 1784 Bronze cast in relief and engraved Signed 'Clodion' lower right Inscribed 'A Monseigneur le Prince de Rohan / HOMMAGE de l'auteur / M. C. / 1787' verso Louis-René de Rohan, Cardinal de Rohan, was a French cardinal and statesman and a member of the powerful Rohan family. He made himself an enemy of Queen Marie Antoinette and became embroiled in the famous 'affair of the diamond necklace' in 1784-1785, only being acquitted in 1786. Dimensions: 8.5 in. (H) x 20 in. (W)
