William Henry Harriott (British, c.1790–1839) Prince Maffei's Palace in Verona 1827 Pencil, pen, brown ink, watercolour and gum arabic on paper 'Prince Maffei's Palace' written on both sides Signed and dated 'W.H.Harriott 21st November 1827' verso With Peter Cardiff Fine Art sticker and provenance card verso From the Fane Collection To be sold without reserve Provenance: Harriott's, a pupil of Samuel Prout, and spent several months each year sketching on the continent when on leave from his job as a clerk in the War Office. He was a friend of John Sell Cotman, who took tracings of many of Harriott's compositions. This watercolour of Prince Maffei's Palace has been painted from exactly the same spot as Bonington's version of 1826, which is now in the V&A (No.3047-1876). Examples: British Museum  Dimensions: (Frame) 24 in. (H) x 20 in. (W) (Paper) 21 in. (H) x 16.5 (W)
