Circle of Giorgio Vasari (Italian, 1511-1574) Madonna and Child with John the Baptist, St Joseph and St Elizabeth Pen and brown ink on paper With stamped collector's mark for Giuseppe Vallardi (Milan 1784-id. 1861), Lugt 1223, recto lower left Provenance: With Giuseppe Vallardi (1784-1863) post 1819. Vallardi was a dealer and collector of paintings and drawings in Milan; he originally worked with his brother Pietro as Fratelli Vallardi (qv). Ran business alone after Pietro's death in 1819. Became a dealer and collector of old master drawings. He sold the Pisanello album to Louvre in 1856 and owned, among others, the copper etching plates – which he reissued – by Andrea Mantegna, Robetta or Rubetta, Marc’Antonio Raimondi and Annibale Carracci. Dimensions: (Sheet) 8.75 in. (H) x 7 in. (W)
