Circle of Joseph Mallord William Turner (British, 1775–1851), Arth, on the Lake of Zug Pencil and watercolour with pen and ink  Appears unopened to reverse of picture  Relates to 28 Arth in, Through Switzerland With Turner by Ian Warrell (Tate Gallery), (Lake Zug) 1842-1843 Provenance: Private Collection, UK Joseph Mallard Turner made a tour with Mr Munro, Munro was one of the most important patrons of J. M. W. Turner, as well as being the painter's close friend and (in 1836) traveling companion. He commissioned Turner's paintings Venice from the Porch of Madonna della Salute (1837) and The Lake of Zug (1843), neither of which pleased him. He gave The Lake of Zug to John Ruskin, his rival as a collector of Turner, who records, "Mr. Munro thought the Zug too blue and let me have it." Dimensions: (Paper) 8 in. (H) x 11 in. (W) (Frame) 17 in. (H) x 21.25 in. (W)
