British, circa 1610 An exceptionally rare and early piece stumpwork depicting the story of Joseph from the Book of Genesis. One panel depicting Jospeh in his coat surrounded by his brothers, in a field with corn stacks beyond and the sun shining behind a cloud. The second panel depicting Joseph being put into a well by two of his brothers, with various animals in the background. The two panels sewn together with gold thread. In a gilt 17th century frame with memorial blackening. From a distinguished private collection Dimensions: (Frame) 12.75 in. (H) x 15 in. (W)
