Overprint Setting 1
Printing 4, 14 November 1895 - 6a. only
Early cancellations also point to a 6 annas printing by 14 November. Its production, however, was a special case. The 8x10 configuration of the 6 annas pane contrasts with the 12x10 configuration of the panes of other values. The 6 annas stamp was the same width as the other values, but shorter (22.5mm. instead of 24mm.). Although the same setting was used, the placement of the type in the forme would have required special adjustment
Given the unusual, and for the typesetter inconvenient, layout of the 6 annas, it is unlikely that another printing of this value would have occurred while Setting 1 was in place
6a. pale brown with error "Zanzidar", "d" for "p" and small second "z" down. R. 4/6, used with first day of use "zanzibar/reg/14 no 95" datestamp, fine. Very rare with only six used examples recorded, two of which are in the Royal Philatelic Collection. PFSA (1996) and B.P.A. (2018) Certificates. S.G. 13D/j, £4,250. Photo
