Overprint Setting 1
Printing 2, 14 November 1895 - Overprinted in blue-black, 1a. only
Hall (p. 26) suggested that the blue-black variant probably came from a mixing of the ink when the colour was changed from blue to black. Perhaps a more credible explanation is that this variant, which was quite extensively used on Zanzibar's overprinted postal stationery, was judged after a brief trial to be unsuitable for the stamps
1a. plum with small second "z" up, used with hatched-circle "zanzibar/18 fe 96" datestamp; tiny tone spot, otherwise fine. B.P.A. Certificate (2018). S.G. 4Dp, £100. Photo
Subject to 20% VAT on Buyer’s Premium. For more information please view Terms and Conditions for Buyers.
