Overprint Settings and Printings
Overprint Setting 1
Printings 7 and 8, January/April 1896 - ½a., 1a., 1½a., 2a., 2½a., 4a. and 8a. values
Hall illustrated a block of 60 ½a. stamps (p.30) which he wrongly described as Setting "B", "probably the left hand half of the pane". In fact his block can be shown to be columns 4 to 9 of a late version of his Setting "D" (Overprint Setting 1). The "Zanzidar" inverted "p" for "d" error, R.8/5 and the sans-serif thick "b" variety in R.6/7 had been removed. Other minor changes in the setting had taken place. See plating chart in Figure 4
½a. blue-green marginal block of thirty-five (7x5) from the foot of the sheet with printer's mark at foot signifying the centre point of the sheet, R.5/6-10/1, confirming the removal of the "Zanzidar", inverted "p" for "d" error from R.8/5 and the sans-serif thick "b" variety from R.6/7, fresh with virtually full original gum. A significant and important proving multiple. S.G. 3. Photo
