Demarest for Rookwood Pottery, Lotus Blossom vase, #T1239, Cincinnati, OH, 1900, Sea Green glazed ceramic, electro-deposit bronze, impressed marks, 5"w x 5"h, Provenance: Private Cincinnati Collection, The Collection of Ed and Anne Berger, Cincinnati, OH Literature: S.G. Burt, Record Book of: 2,292 Pieces of Early Rookwood Pottery in the Cincinnati Art Museum in 1916, Cincinnati, 1978, p. 142 A beautiful example of Rookwood's Sea Green and bronze overlay. The lotus blossom is deeply carved and the bronze overlay is as finely executed, as you will find. The patina on the bronze is spotless and unlike many examples of Rookwood with applied metal, there are no glaze flaws or dark crazing lines. The bottom carries a trial mark, artist initials and incised "G" indicating it is a Sea Green. Mint with minor crazing. Impressed identifying marks and artist initials on base.
