Note:
Harold Klunder is one of Canada's best-known painters, and created many prints at Open Studio in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. His explorations in print include expressive and greatly layered lithographs, which often feature the edge of the lithograph stone, embracing the breaks and undulations in the stone edges. Klunder also produced detailed small etchings and woodcuts at the studio. Many of the prints he created exemplify his painterly vocabulary, which operates between figuration and abstraction.
In a recent interview related to the Open Studio archive, printmaker Otis Tamasauskas recalled working with Klunder in the studio, with lithograph stones laid on the floor, and the great energy he employed to make every mark during the printmaking process.
Ivory Coast was created at Open Studio in 1979 and printed with Nick Novak and Don Holman, whose artist's chops can be seen in the bottom right corner of the paper.
