11. Declaration of independence

If you want to break away from the well-known Swiss watch maker brands and try something different then an independent manufacturer brand will fit the bill nicely.
Founded in 1988 Daniel Roth was one of the first makers to challenge the big Swiss firms with its own distinctive styling and technical prowess.

Roth was eventually swallowed up by Italian juggernaut BVLGARI in 2000 so you should look for the watches made before that date because they are the ones made during the firm's independent period which most collectors view as the more stylish and desirable.

This Daniel Roth watch at Watches of Knightsbridge on November 13 is from about 1990 and ticks all the boxes for style and quality that buyers associate with its independent period.
