An exceptionally large Victorian silver-mounted horn beaker or vase - Thomas Johnson I, London 1872, retailer's mark for White & Campbell, 133 New Bond St, London, with shield-shaped plaque inscribed 'Presented by Lt. Col. Sir George F. C. Pocock Bart. Won By Sergt. B. Taylor 1874', 21.9cm high. * George Francis Coventry Pocock (1830-1915) entered the 30th Regiment as an ensign in 1848. While serving as a captain during the Crimean War, he lost his left arm and was severely wounded in the right wrist at the Battle of the Great Redan (Siege of Sebastopol) on September 8th 1855. He retired from the Army in 1881 as Hon. Colonel. The trophy was most likely presented to Sgt. G. Turner, 2nd Sussex Rifle Volunteers, for rifle shooting.
