Das Diptychon geht auf das Gemälde 'Flipper' von 1965 zurück. Der zweifarbige Druck ist dem Druck des dreifarbigen Originalentwurfs gegenübergestellt. Blinky Palermo hat erst nach dem Andruck entschieden, auch von der zweifarbigen Variante eine Auflage zu erstellen, und einige Wochen später bestimmt, die Blätter als Diptychon abzugeben. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt waren aber schon wenige Einzelblätter verkauft worden und ein Teil der Auflage war an der Oberfläche beschädigt worden. Diese Blätter hat der Künstler 1972 aussortiert und vernichtet. Also, vermutet Fred Jahn im Werkverzeichnis, sind nur zwischen 50 und 60 Exemplar aus der ursprünglichen Auflage von 90 existent. In originalem Rahmen.Wir danken Wolfgang Schüller, München, für freundliche Hinweise.Nach einer Apothekerlehre, die Alexander Koester auf Wunsch seiner Eltern ab 1882 absolvierte, begann er 1884 ein Studium der Kunst an der Karlsruher Akademie. Reisen führten ihn ab 1889 unter anderen in das Inntal und Ötzal, wo zahlreiche Skizzen entstanden, auf welchen spätere Genrebilder basierten. Zudem finanzierte er sich das Kunststudium mit Portraitaufträgen. Ab 1896 ließ er sich mit seiner Familie im Südtiroler Ort Klausen nieder und begann hier nach der Natur zu malen, wobei vor allem die Ente zu einem seiner wichtigsten Motive wurde. Das Spiel von Licht und Schatten auf dem weißen Gefieder der durch das Schilf gründelnden Enten gibt der Maler auch auf dem vorliegenden Gemälde in seiner virtuosen, spätimpressionistischen Manier wieder. Das Motiv der Ente nahm im Schaffen des Künstlers einen hohen Stellenwert ein und trug ihm 1904 die Goldmedaille auf der Weltausstellung in St. Louis ein sowie im Jahr darauf die Goldmedaille II. Klasse des Bayerischen Staates, die ihm von Prinzregent Luitpold von Bayern verliehen wurde.Mit sicherer Pinselführung zeigt der Künstler auf dem vorliegenden Gemälde insgesamt acht Enten, die im schattigen Uferbreich schwimmen, wobei ihr Gefieder aus der dunklen, virtuos reflektierenden Wasserfläche hervorleuchtet. Gary Robert Shaw (1961-2024) Aston Villa Medal Collection - A truly remarkable, historical and unique set of football medals and awards, to arguably the most decorated player in Aston Villa's history. The medals and awards include: 1982 European Cup Winners medal. 1982 European Super Cup Winners medal. 1981 Football League Championship Division 1 Winners Gold medal in case. 1982 Bravo Award Medal. 1980 Young Player of the Year Trophy. 1982 European Cup Winners medal in case awarded to Shaw following Aston Villas' 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich at the De Kuip Stadium, Rotterdam. The obverse embossed 'UEFA', the reverse 'Coupes des Clubs Champions Europeans, 1982', 32mm dia approx. 1980/81 Football League Championship 9ct Gold medal awarded to Shaw. After extra time Villa won 3-1 on aggregate, with Shaw Number 8 scoring first at 80mins. 1982 Bravo Award medal with 0.25 carat diamond embedded into medal awarded to Shaw, engraved to the obverse 'Guerin Sportivo, Bravo 82', measures 2.5 x 5.5cm approx. Annual award handed out by Guerin Sportivo (Italian Magazine) to the most outstanding Young European footballer. There were 38 awards from 1978 until the award discontinued in 2015. Shaw was just one of four Englishmen to win this award with other notable winners such as Marco Van Basten, Roberto Baggio, Pep Guardiola, Ryan Giggs, Alessandro Del Piero, Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. 1980/81 PFA Young Player of the Year Trophy Awarded to Shaw. First awarded in the 1973/74 season, Shaw received the award following the 1980/81 campaign. The award is still running today and has been won by various notable players such as Glenn Hoddle, Paul Gascoigne, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane and most recently Cole Palmer.
