Lot 28

A Caughley 'Tower' coffee can, circa 1790, painted in underglaze blue with an associated interior border, the cup an uncommon shape for this pattern with an angular handle, gilt line border to foot, unmarked, 6cm highCondition:An approximately 2cm long hairline descends from the rim, with a further star-shaped crack to the underside of the base. The original gilt border to the inner rim is almost completely worn away. Further shorter hairlines are just above the upper handle junction and around the lower handle terminus.

Lot 16

A small group of Worcester in the 'Scarlet Gold and Japan' pattern, circa 1770-80, comprising an ogee chocolate or breakfast cup, 7.2cm high; a slop or waste bowl, 12.5cm high and a milk jug, 8cm high (3)Although catalogued as Worcester, it is worth considering a Caughley 'Rose Festoons' teapot in the Caughley Bicentenary Exhibition, no. 518, which shares the same rare handle shape as the jug. The paste is also somewhat creamier than expected on Worcester. However, the cup has an atypical glassy glaze and spitting on the foot rim, which suggests possible re-decoration, perhaps at Chamberlain's. Condition:The breakfast/chocolate cup has a hairline descending from the. The gilt to all three pieces on the rims is generally worn.

A Caughley polychrome tea bowl and saucer decorated in the 'Scarlet and Gold Japan' pattern, circa 1785-90, with three bands of scarlet and no white mons as traditionally seen on Worcester, unmarked, saucer 12.5cm diameterProvenance: Exhibited at Caughley Polychrome Exhibition, 2005, no. 52.Condition:The tea bowl has some rogue black marks to the interior, alongside a few scratches to the exterior rim and some light wear to the interior. The saucer has two rofessionally restored rim chips, but is otherwise good.

A Caughley 'Fence' sucrier and cover, circa 1785, transfer-printed in underglaze blue, the cover with floral finial, C with serif mark, 12.5cm highCondition:A couple of small nibbles to the underside rim of the cover and a few fleabites to the finial. There are also some firing cracks to the leaves on the cover. Otherwise good.

Lot 24

An uncommon Caughley 'Blue and Gold Star and Fly' tea bowl and saucer, circa 1790, or reeded form, decorated in underglaze blue and gilt, with associated blue and gilt border, painted underglaze 'S' mark in blue, saucer 14cm diameter (2)Condition:One small chip is on the rim of the saucer, seemingly a manufacturing flaw with a partial gilt cover. The remainder of the gilt remains in good order, beyond a couple of negligible flakes to the gilt of the tea bowl's rim. There are some light scratches and signs of use to the saucer and interior of the tea bowl.

This is an unusual form in underglaze blue, more commonly found in polychrome, though printed Striped Temple examples are also known.Condition:Tea bowl—There is some slight nibbling around the foot rim. There is a minute dark brown glaze spot on the rim and some surface wear to the vertical edges of some of the spiral reeds.
