ELLINGTON DUKE: (1899-1974) American jazz composer and pianist. A vintage 4to printed souvenir programme for Duke Ellington and his Famous Orchestra in concert, tour of Great Britain, 5th - 26th October 1958, signed by Ellington in blue ink with his name alone to a light area of an inside full-page portrait, and also signed by various members of Ellington´s orchestra comprising John Sanders (trombone), Russell Procope (alto saxophone and clarinet), Jimmy Hamilton (clarinet), Sam Woodyard (drums), Ozzie Bailey (vocals), Clark Terry (trumpet), Jimmy Woode (bass), Paul Gonsalves (tenor saxophone), Britt Woodman (trombone), and Jimmy Rushin. Three have signed to inside pages alongside their brief biographies and seven have signed to the front cover of the programme, Woodyard adding an inscription in his hand. NEUKOMM SIGISMUND VON: (1778-1858) Austrian composer and pianist. A fine, highly attractive autograph musical manuscript signed, le Cher. Sigismond Neukomm, thirty-six pages (16 stave manuscript paper), 8vo, London, 7th February 1832. The working full-score manuscript is for Neukomm's complete work Septet ('Fantaisie concertante') in E flat, scored for trumpet, horn, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and double bass, penned in brown ink on up to two eight-stave systems per page, with an autograph title page in French, autograph foliation ('1' - '36') and with some instructions in English ('….exactly in time, not ritard…') and a number of erasures and autograph corrections. Dated at the conclusion and again signed by Neukomm with his monogram ('SN') Bound with string in the original dark brown wrappers. Some light age wear and a few minor stains to the inside pages, the paper wrappers with some minor creases and a few small tears, about VGAutograph musical manuscripts of Neukomm very seldom appear at auction, the great majority of his manuscripts now being housed in the Bibliotheque nationale in Paris. Septet was written for the Royal Philharmonic Society in 1832.
A BOOSEY AND HAWKES WESTMINSTER CLARINET, Serial No.169994, together with a Selmer Gold Seal clarinet, both polished wood, in a fitted Boosey and Hawkes case, and two Dearman Super mouthpieces (2) (Est. plus 24% premium inc. VAT) Condition Report: The fitted case is marked and stained. The top does open and close smoothly. Both clarinets appear intact but in a used condition.
