Prothèse d'oculariste à iris brun clair signée « Dali » puis vernis , accompagné d’un prototype à iris bleu en céramique émaillée sur bois. La prothèse est signée par Salvador Dali avec un dessin de vaisseaux sanguins. Dans sa boîte circulaire en métal peint en jaune et marquée sur le couvercle : " Lemoine-Flizet-Peigné, ocularistes. 76, boulevard de Magenta. Paris ». Dimensions de la prothèse d'oculariste : 2,2 x 2,8 x 1,1 cm. Dimensions du prototype : 2,6 x 1,7 cm. Provenance : Prothèse et prototype offerts en 1987 par un responsable de la cristallerie Daum à l'actuel propriétaire. Au même titre que le nouveau-réaliste César (1921-1998), Salvador Dali collabora avec Jacques Daum (1909-1987) à la création d'objets-décors surréalistes en pâte de cristal. Éditées par la célèbre manufacture de verrerie entre 1968 et 1985, les oeuvres ont pour particularité de remettre à l'honneur l'antique technique de la pâte de verre par adjonction d'environ un tiers de plomb. Dali conçut alors en 1967 une sculpture de près de 50 cm de hauteur stylisant Polyphème flanqué d'un unique oeil. Le modèle d'oeil non signé en céramique possède un iris bleu, comme dans la version finale de la sculpture éditée par Daum. Afin de concevoir sa création à partir d'un modèle naturaliste, Dali s'inspira de notre prothèse d'oculariste sur laquelle il apposa sa signature puis vernis. Cela laisse sous-entendre que le Cyclope était initialement doté d'un oeil brun clair.

An early 20th century two-handled gilt decorated cameo glass vase in the manner of Daum of Nancy - unsigned, of globular form with twin clear glass reeded scroll handles, in two-tone ice blue and pale amber glass with a short, bombe form neck in olive green glass, with raised cameo decoration of flowers and leaves issuing from uneven ground, 19.7cm high, minor losses to tendrils and stems on the cameo decoration, gilt wear throughout.
