After Andrea della Robbia (1435-1525) Cantagalli ceramic plaque or roundel, depicting a 'Baby of Clay' (From the Hospital of Innocents), with impressed marks 'Cantagalli Firenze' to the reverse, 31cm across With signs of age, wear and use. Some losses to the glaze both to the rim of the plaque and the child.
RARE DELLA ROBBIA LARGE FOOTED URN BY WILLIAM WARWICK OR WILLIE WILLIAMS, CIRCA 1895, U-shaped bowl with lug handles, inscribed to the rim 'Augusta Rathbone', and further decorated with green leafy fronds above an acanthus leaf base against a sea green ground. Comments: Extensive flaking and hair cracks. 38cm (h), 29.5cm (d)Provenance: private collection Cheshire. This piece, probably a presentation piece for Mrs S.G. Rathbone, known as Augusta in the Rathbone family, vice-president of the Ladies Union, Liverpool, circa 1891, and wife of Mr S.G. Rathbone, co-founder of Edge Hill College. The vase appears to be referenced in Juliet Carroll's doctoral thesis for Liverpool John Moores University 'Rennaissance to Regent Street; Harold Rathbone and the Della Robbie Pottery of Birkenhead', as being discovered in a garden shed at Hillside Cottage, West Kirby by a descendant of Mrs S. G. Rathbone
