12bore Winchester Model 1897 single barrel pump-action shotgun No. 248377. Some obvious damage at magazine join to breech (piece broken out of breech) but otherwise complete. There is evidence of welding to slider and pegs inserted across chamber and barrel which may be very old attempt at deactivation. It does not appear to comply with either current or pre 2018 deactivation specs, magazine capacity exceeds legal limit for shotguns and there are no Proof House deactivation marks on the gun nor any accompanying Deactivation Certificate. The overall length is 45” and it has a short barrel at 25” including a slotted compensator. Without the compensator the barrel would be approx. 20” which may help with identification. Barrels of this length were fitted to the WW1 American military “Trench Gun” version but there is no evidence on this example of the heat shield, bayonet attachment or sling swivels. There was also Police or Riot Gun version used by civil authorities although the compensator does not appear to have been a standard fitment. The Coutts compensator, modified from an original design for artillery, was introduced for use on some light machine guns after WW1, such as the Thompson Gun and BAR, to aid accuracy by reducing excessive recoil and muzzle lift. It did subsequently become a popular addition to semi-auto shotguns in American skeet competitions in the 1950’s and this is probably the most likely origin of this gun as an adaptation of the Police Gun version although the full choke barrel might be less than ideal. All original metal finish with obvious evidence of use with a polished dark finish to metal surfaces. Plain straight grained dark wooden stock with semi pistol-grip chequered at wrist and fitted with 1” rubber recoil pad. LOP 13” including recoil pad. The wooden fore-end is a poor match and looks to be a replacement with roughly cut grips. An interesting curio or collector’s piece if brought up to current deactivation specification and certification. WHILST IMMEDIATELY UNUSEABLE THIS GUN IS NOT LEGALLY DEACTIVATED AND THEREFORE REMAINS A SECTION 1 FIREARM. IT CAN ONLY BE PURCHASED BY A RFD OR AN INDIVIDUAL HOLDING A CURRENT RFD WITH A VACANT AUTHORITY TO ACQUIRE THIS FIREARM.
Long antique Indian matchlock jezail musket at 68” overall and 48” barrel at approx. .500” bore. Smooth plain bright metal barrel which has been varnished at some time, smooth bored and slightly flared at the muzzle and stamped “JPR EXR 24119” at breech although the numbers are indistinct which indicates that it was at some time lodged in the Jaipur Armoury. Simple fixed iron rear-sight and bead fore-sight. Fully stocked in a plain dark straight grained wood (probably ironwood) which has a short split at the muzzle end and broken sliver at the breech with typical North Indian straight narrow butt which is stamped with “4119” Barrel secured to wood by six plain copper bands and a ramrod is present. Plain and very simple lock in working order. The plain and practical construction suggests a firearm intended for use rather than the ceremonial or decorative purpose of some more profusely decorated examples. Long barrel and small bore made these guns a very effective weapon in the hands of North Indian tribesmen, especially fired from ambush or concealment, and despite their antiquated appearance were still found in use until the beginning of the 20th century. An example of Kipling’s deadly “ten rupee jezail” for the collector.
An Antique Indian style flintlock short gun with flared iron barrel 25” overall 11½” barrel. Round barrel with gentle flare to approx. 1” at muzzle and fluted along must of its’ length with raised decoration at breech and Barrel has significant corrosion internally and externally with signs of some external etched decoration. Barrel tang at breech has been either broken or deliberately shortened. Brass barrel band and iron trigger guard with significant corrosion. Cock, pan, frizzen and spring all present. Trigger is loose and lock is not functioning and internal components may be broken/missing It has external decoration of an Indian style and may have been adapted from another firearm. Full stocked in plain wood with butt end made from differently grained and coloured laminated sections to shape an Indian style stock and probably adapted from conventional European woodwork from another firearm. Wood/metal fit is poor and the gun has almost certainly been made-up with an amalgamation of parts originating from an Indian workshop. Poor condition overall but an interesting decorative piece. ANTIQUE BUYER MUST BE OVER 18.
A heavy antique full-stocked percussion pistol at 15” overall with 10½” heavy smooth-bore barrel at approx. 500”cal. No maker, proof or other identification marks evident apart from some Oriental style inscriptions on l/h of barrel and the number 8781 and more Oriental script on the lock plate. A crown is stamped to the rear of the hammer, but this is not the Enfield mark although the lock and hammer are of Enfield pattern, or possibly 1842 Pattern musket. Iron “V” rear sight and bead fore-sight with concentric rings cut into barrel approx. 4” from breech. The lock works and the hammer cocks and fires but a slight slackness can be felt in the trigger although spring pressure on cocking feels strong. Clean woodwork to a red/brown polished finish with a few scuffs and scratches commensurate with use and age and good wood/metal fit. A very sharply curved grip with slightly mis-matched butt end screwed on. Brass front barrel strap but the fore-end has the appearance of having been shortened and the ramrod is not a proper fit and crudely made. It has the appearance of having been shortened and perhaps converted from a longer firearm. It is however a nice clean item of possible Indian origin for display or collection. ANTIQUE NO LICENCE REQUIRED BUT OVER 18 ONLY AND RESTRICTIONS MAY APPLY.
Lee Enfield SMLE .410 bolt action shotgun, serial number 9959, 25inch barrel fitted with a tangent rear sight, previously a .303 and now bearing Birmingham nitro proof marks, the wrist joint stamped Enfield 191? Sht LE III, the reverse with Ishapore .410 RFI 1948. Together with a canvas sling.UK SHOTGUN LICENCE OR RFD REQUIRED. 113cm long The Lee Enfield is in average general condition for a firearm that has seen regular military service. The bore is bright and shiny with no signs of fault or damage. The action works correctly and positively, the bolt face has a very light primer pocket mark. The metal finish is showing signs of wear, mainly on the edges, there is some fresh surface corrosion that can be seen dotted around the gun. There is an armourer's repair to the top heal of the butt where a piece of wood has been spliced in, there are also three filled holes to the woodwork on the bolt side of the gun, as well as a screw which does not appear to be standard which passes through the forend wood between in the area between the breech and the rear sight, its purpose is not known. There are armourers including spliced wood bars and brass pin repairs to the thin parts of the wood which extends around the rear sight on the upper hand guards. There are lots of dents, scratches, marks and stains typical of a military rifle that has seen active service. The original WWI markings are a little faint in places due to wear and also the gun being refinished in the RFI arsenal when converted to a .410. As part of this conversion, the rear sight blade and carrier has been fixed in place and the spring removed.
Lithgow .303 Lee Enfield SMLE bolt action rifle, serial number K4815 and also 76492, 25inch barrel with tangent rear sight, the knox form with Birmingham proof marks and bearing the number 76492, repeated on the buttstock, the wrist joint is stamped with the number K4815 (currently being used as the rifle serial number) as well as 'MA Lithgow SMLE III * 1941' the butt stock is stamped with various issue dates. Together with a canvas sling, as well as an oil bottle and pull through cleaner (contained within the butt trap) UK FIREARMS LICENCE WITH .303 RIFLE VARIATION OR RFD REQUIRED. 112cm long The rifle is in good general condition for a firearm that has seen regular military service. The bore has a good well defined rifling pattern that shows a little wear around the throat ahead of the chamber. Some frosting can be seen within the rifling towards the muzzle. The action works correctly and positively, the bolt face has a very light primer pocket mark. The metal finish is showing some signs of wear, mainly on the edges. The magazine has lost most of the finish. The stock is free from splits or damage, there are lots of dents, scratches, marks and stains typical of a military rifle that has seen active service.
