Natural History: A Collection of Carved Wooden Trout, dated 1904-1907, retailed by Charles Farlow & Co, Ltd, Fishing Rod Manufacturers, 191, The Strand, London, each trout carved in deep relief with realistic scales and fins, probably by John and Dhuie Tully, each mounted upon rectangular mahogany shields, each with hand painted legend to shield base - 4lbs, Caught by R. Barker, Brokenboro 1904, - 3lbs, (shield size 68cm by 26.5cm), a second Caught by Major R. Baker-Carr, Brokenboro, 1904, (shield size 66cm by 25cm,) and a third Caught by R. Barker, Brokenborough, 1907, Weight 3¼ lbs, (shield size 67cm by 25.5cm), each with stamped trade label to verso of the shield, (3). Farlow and Hardy stand shoulder to shoulder in the world of fishing tackle manufacturers, both are renowned for excellent quality, and they are both highly collectable. Charles Farlow started his game fishing tackle business in 1838. He traded under the name C. Farlow at 221, The Strand, London. In 1852 the local authority changed the address to 191, The Strand. In around 1885 he started to trade under the business name C. Farlow & Co. and operated with that name until it became a limited company in 1894. Upon his death in 1895 two sons Charles Paas and John Ambrose took over and became joint governing directors.
