TIFFANY & CO., DESIGNED BY ANGELA CUMMINGS: A COLLECTIBLE JASPER AND GOLD NECKLACE, CIRCA 1980Composed of a single strand of circular jasper links, accented by gold slivers, to a gold clasp, mounted in 18K gold, signed T&CO., with maker's pouch, length 59.4cmBorn in Austria in 1944 and raised in the United States, Angela Cummings studied fine art in Italy and trained in gemmology and goldsmithing in Germany. These formative years set the foundation for her innovative design career. Joining Tiffany & Co. in 1967, Cummings worked under Donald Claflin, developing a design philosophy that balanced artistic expression with timeless craftsmanship. In 1975, she became one of the first designers at Tiffany to debut a collection under her own name, marking a pivotal moment in her career. Inspired by nature, Cummings incorporated textures from leaves, petals, and marine life into her designs, often using materials like lapis lazuli, jade, and opal set in 18 carat gold. This technique, combining hardstone and metal seamlessly, resulted in tactile, luminous pieces. In 1984, she left Tiffany to launch Angela Cummings Inc. with her husband, Bruce. That same year, she opened a boutique at Bergdorf Goodman, becoming the first fine jewellery designer to do so, solidifying her reputation in the luxury market. Her work attracted a distinguished clientele, including Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Oprah Winfrey. More recently, actress Gal Gadot wore a vintage Cummings piece at the 2025 Academy Awards, demonstrating the enduring relevance of her designs. After retiring in 2003, Cummings returned to design in 2013 with a collaboration with Assael, creating a 25-piece collection of pearl jewellery set in platinum, gold, and diamonds. Her pieces are now held in prestigious collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. Condition Report:One disc near clasp with crack line visible on the reverse and very slightly visible under a bright light source to the front, one small chip on another disc only visible on the reverseNormal signs of wear, commensurate with age, overall in good conditionTotal gross weight approx. 157.3gWith maker's case

Substantial history fileConcours winnerOlder restorationThe 1950 MG TD combined the TC's drivetrain, a modified hypoid-geared rear axle, the MG Y-Type chassis, a familiar T-Type style body and independent suspension using coil springs from the MG Y-Type saloon. Also new was rack and pinion steering, smaller 15" disc type road wheels, a left hand drive option and standard equipment bumpers with overriders. The car was five inches wider with a track of 50". In 1950, the TD Mk. II was introduced alongside the standard car, featuring a more highly tuned engine with 8.0:1 compression ratio giving 57bhp at 5500rpm. It also featured twin fuel pumps, revised dampers and a higher rear axle ratio. Nearly 30,000 MG TD's were manufactured, including 1,700 Mk. II models. When the series ended in 1953, all but 1,656 were exported with 23,488 of them to the United States. An example tested by 'The Motor' magazine in 1952 had a top speed of 77mph and could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 18.2 secondsSold new from Abington to South Africa in 1950, the MG TD offered here presents beautifully. Repatriated to the UK in 1992, it underwent a full nut and bolt restoration that was finished to a high enough standard to demand a £33,995 asking price when later sold on by Martin Ingham in 2016. Indeed, the insurance valuations consistently support this and whilst the car shows some patina now, it still presents beautifully. Reported by the vendor to run and drive very well, the car is also reported to have had an interesting life before it made its way home to the UK. The story quoted in the supplied magazine article states that when the regime change began in South Africa, the owners were told to leave but weren’t allowed to take any cash with them. They were, however, allowed to take a container full of belongings with them. They quickly sold as much as they could and bought gold Krugerrands and diamonds, then filling every cavity of the MG from the petrol tank to chassis box sections and put the car in the container which got them past the checks and allowed them to start a new life in the United States.Supplied with V5 registration document, an abundance of paperwork, correspondence and magazine articles, this former show winner presents great value at a fraction of its prior purchase price and is only offered for sale due to the vendor no longer being able to drive it. 'On Tuesday May 27th, the crew of the NC-4 was up before dawn. The engines and radio was checked out and on the signal from Read, Elmer Stone advanced the throttles and the big flying boat lifted off in the early morning for Lisbon Portugal. Another chain of destroyers extended between the Azores and Lisbon. The weather was good and as the NC-4 passed over each destroyer the ship radioed a message of her passage to the base ship Melville at Ponta Delagada and the cruiser Rochester in Lisbon who in turn reported to the Navy Department in Washington. At 19:30 the flashing light from the Coba da Roca lighthouse was spotted and the NC-4 passed over the coastline. The big aircraft turned southward toward the Tagus estuary and Lisbon. At 20:01 on May 27, 1919, the NC-4s keel sliced into the waters of the Tagus. The welcome was tumultuous. A transatlantic flight, the first one in the history of the world, was an accomplished fact!Early in the morning of 30 May the NC-4 departed Lisbon for Plymouth England. The NC-4 sat down in the Mondego River to investigate an overheating engine. The radiator had developed a leak and was repaired but because of a low tide condition it became too late in the day to take off and reach Plymouth before dark so Read proceeded to Ferrol in northern Spain to spend the night. They were back in the air the next morning and as they approached Plymouth a formation of Royal Air Force seaplanes escorted the NC-4 into the harbour. A British warship fired a 21 gun salute as the NC-4 circled. The Lord Mayor of Plymouth received Commander Read and his crew and from Plymouth they went to London where they were decorated by the King of England. President Wilson, who was at the Peace Conference in Paris, sent for them, congratulated them for their outstanding achievement and introduced them to all present…'The triumphant closing stages of the NC-4's pioneering trans-Atlantic flight in May 1919; the U.S. Coast Guard's 'Aviation History' website refers. The important Aero Club of America Aviation Medal of Merit, Artefacts and Archive appertaining to Walter T. Regret impossible to make definitive plans at this time'; together with a quantity of Hinton's calling cards and home stationery. (Lot)Walter T. Hinton was born in Pleasant Township, Van Wert County, Ohio on 10 November 1888, where he was raised on a farmstead. An adventurous soul, he was motivated by a poster urging young men to 'Join the Navy and See the World' and did just that, entering the United States Navy in February 1908 and seeing action at the occupation of Veracruz in Mexico in 1914.But it was in naval aviation that he was to make his mark, having become one of the first enlisted men gain a place at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida. He became an instructor on gaining his 'Wings', one of his pupil pilots being Richard E. Byrd, afterwards the famous polar aviator.Of his subsequent exploits as co-pilot with Elmer Stone of the Curtiss NC-4's trail blazing trans-Atlantic crossing in May 1919, much has been written, including The Flying Firsts of Walter Hinton, by Benjamin J. Burns. In addition, numerous website sources bear testament to the epic nature of the flight, a particularly detailed account appearing on the U.S. Coast Guard's 'Aviation History' site:https://cgaviationhistory.org/1919-nc-4-transatlantic-flight/Of the three flying boats that set out from Rockaway Beach, New York on 8 May 1919, only NC-4 made it safely to Lisbon, via ports of call in Nova Scotia and the Azores in a journey lasting 19 days. The subject of rapturous receptions over the coming weeks - not just in Lisbon, but in London and Paris too - Hinton and his crew enjoyed further accolades by way of reward, among them honours bestowed by the Portuguese and British governments, in addition to those presented them on returning to America; Hinton's Navy Cross was later surpassed by a Congressional Gold Medal awarded him in 1929.During the 1920s, he continued his pioneering work, exploring the Arctic by balloon, including a wayward flight in Navy Balloon A-5598 from Rockaway Naval Air Station to Moose Factory, Ontario, a winter trip which ended with a month-long hike back to civilisation. He also made the first flight from North America to South America, where he explored the Amazon forest by hydroplane; his first attempt at that feat nearly ended in disaster, when he was compelled to take to the wing of his aircraft in shark infested waters off Cuba.A noted speaker on aviation matters, Hinton was President and founder of the Aviation Institute of the U.S.A., and published a number of periodicals, including Pioneers in Aviation, Aviation Progress and Wings of Opportunity.Retiring to Pompano Beach, Florida - where he delighted in sharing his memories with all and sundry - his glittering career was crowned by a supersonic flight in Concorde, when, as a special guest, the Atlantic crossing took less than four hours. After his death in 1981, his ashes were interred at Arlington National Cemetery. SALE 25001 NOTICE:Gold match safe weighs 34g. Naming of the Aero Club of America Medal now added to the Lot.

Lot 122

Registration No: D348 UBH Chassis No: 1G1YY6787G5905383 MOT: June 2025Number 5,383 of 7,315 C4's built to Indy 500 pace car specificationSupplied with the original owners handbook displaying 1986 Indy 500 winner Bobby Rahal's autographImported to the UK in 1992Described as an extraordinarily original car with only 49,989 miles displayed on the odometerArguably the most radical 'Vette in two decades, the fourth generation or C4 model was introduced in March 1983. Built around a C-section beam-reinforced monocoque, it was equipped with composite transverse-leaf independent suspension and rack and pinion steering. Fitted with 16 x 8.5 alloy wheels shod with P255/50VR-16 tyres as standard, the C4's handling drew considerable praise from the contemporary press. Powered by a 350ci/5.7-litre V8 engine mated to either four-speed automatic or manual gearboxes, it was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in under six seconds and over 140mph. Boasting new aluminium callipers, its four-wheel disc braking system proved more efficient than ever. Noticeably lower-slung than its predecessor, the new car actually possessed greater ground clearance (thanks to a cleverly routed exhaust) and a more spacious interior. In 1986, to celebrate the launch of the new C4 Convertible, Chevrolet supplied 56 Corvettes as pace cars and official vehicles for the Indianapolis 500. Chevrolet saw a great marketing opportunity in making replicas available to the general public. The cars actually used at the track sported Yellow paint, but all 1986 Convertibles were considered Pace Car Replicas. The open-top option added $5,000 to the price of the car, and 7,315 were produced out of the 35,109 total Corvettes sold that year. Supplied in Red, Silver, Black, Gold and Yellow, the C4 Pace Cars were fitted with a commemorative dashboard plaque and were all identical in specification, with brushed alloy wheels and tan leather interior. Our Corvette was delivered in September 1986 to Palm Harbor, Florida, and is said to have been supplied to none other than Bobby Rahal, who won the 1986 Indianapolis 500 Miles race and was the first driver to complete it in under three hours, driving a March 86C. The Corvette was later sold through Florida’s Toy Store dealership, with Mr. Rahal’s signature in the owners handbook, and was imported into Britain in 1988.Besides its provenance, this Corvette represents one of the best-preserved C4s in existence. We understand the paintwork is all factory-applied, and the interior is evidently original and complete with its Indianapolis commemorative plaque. The car has been cherished as a collector’s item from early in its life, having enjoyed single ownership from November 1992 to March 2024, while the MoT record beginning at just over 28,000 miles in 1990 suggests the present mileage of just under 50,000 is genuine. The paint and exterior exhibit only a light patina, concomitant with a well-cared for but unrestored car.The Corvette starts well and runs sweetly, and all of the gauges and switches are to said to function as they should. It is offered with the current V5, a large collection of MoT certificates and the original signed handbook. The dial has a very faint hairline from the centre through to the edge at 3 o'clock; another shorter hairline between 11 and 12; a small scratch at 1 o'clock; some very slight chipping around the centre hole, and some slight edge 'nibbling at 9 o'clock as well as some other very minor edge wear.
