LOUDSPEAKER: A fine vintage Tannoy ‘Landsdown’ Loudspeaker, designed by Ronnie Rackham and Guy R. Fountain, circa 1956/7, the large cabinet, with canted corners fitted with a substantial 12 inch ‘Silver’ driver, a 15 ohm Dual Concentric LS crossover (marked LSU/HF/12/L), the veneered cabinet set on three supports, 80cm high, 94cm wide, 44 cm deep. Speaker serial number: 022019. A vintage March 1956 ‘Gramophone’ magazine article advises that these are the ‘finest’ speakers in the World, and this listing includes the ‘Landsdown’ 12 “ at a price of £68, 5,0. This is an early iteration of the classic Tannoy speaker line that was updated to the ‘RED 12” following the success of the Silver. Note: this speaker is untested at the saleroom, but I understand was previously in use by the vendor. The internals of the cabinet look in excellent overall condition, the ‘Tannoy’ badge on the front is slightly bent and would likely be restorable to a better flat state. Condition report We have removed four nuts in the cabinet to allow safe removal of the speaker cone. This appears in good overall condition, see images (note the dark line is a shadow and not a stain, as the cable prevented complete removal from the casing).
