Some moth damage. Sold together with Officer's Sam Browne leather shoulder belt annotated R S Wilkinson, with leather pistol holster. Also with two desert-khaki uniform jackets, one with Army General Service Corps buttons and WW2 medal ribbon for the Africa star, the other with all buttons removed and a pair of khaki shorts, also with a fighting-style knife with broken tip in leather sheath.(Lot) All items are believed to have been the property of Roger Sharp WILKINSON, born Ulverston 1910 and died 1964 in Carlisle, Cumbria. This gentleman appears to have joined and served with the Tank Corps during World War Two and was later Commissioned and served with the RWAFF in Africa. Online sources confirm award of the four medals as depicted by the ribbons above and that he was discharged as a Captain in the Pioneer Corps in October 1945, number 284593, claiming his medals in March 1949. Directly from the family, there are copies of photographs available to successful bidder of recipient as a Sergeant in Tank Corps uniform and as a Captain RWAFF in uniform. Also sold with an old African tribal leather-bound decorative wooden arrow quiver containing six metal-tipped arrows in damaged state, the quiver in reasonable condition with a removable top and multi-tassled, as brought back from Africa, probably as a momento of his time there, by Captain Wilkinson. A nice, interesting and scarcely seen lot. NOTE: In peacetime, the Royal West African Frontier Force (RWAFF) had numbered five Battalions of infantry, but during the war increased to several dozen plus ancillaries. Each RWAFF infantry battalion included over 80 white Europeans. In total, white Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers constituted 14.6% of the RWAFF. Normally, the Officers were British ones who had volunteered to temporarily serve in Africa and then return to their old unit.
