Born in 1895, Frank began his working life as a shipwright before becoming a builder and undertaker. In 1929, he joined the coastguard, where he served with distinction for forty years. He was awarded the Coastguard Long Service Medal and spent 35 years as the Number One in the Life-saving Team, responsible for aiming and firing the rocket that carried a rescue line to ships in distress.Frank’s interest in local history—particularly that of Porthleven—led him to begin collecting slides in 1947 to support his public talks. He lectured regularly, often once or twice a week, and his presentations became well known in the community. Frank passed away in 1967, and his collection has been carefully preserved by his family. Now being offered is the archive he used for both research and presentation. His glass slides, sold by Lay’s on 16 November 2023 for £15,000, formed an integral part of this historic and much-valued collection.
