An extremely rare Michael Harris for Mdina Glass large tapering textured bottle or lampbase, designed and probably made by Michael Harris c1970, the purple neck blown 'on the post' into a textured mould, the body graduating from purple to colourless glass, with remains of factory paper label to shoulders, 41cm h x 21.5cm widest at base.FOOTNOTE: These extremely rare, large and impressive forms are amongst the rarest of Harris' early textured designs for Mdina Glass. This form is shown in a line drawing in a newspaper advertisement for the company produced c1970, and the coldworked flat top may indicate it was intended to be a lampbase. Acquired by the vendor's mother during a holiday to Malta in the early 1970s.Condition: Excellent condition with no cracks or chips, and with wear commensurate with age to base. A few tiny, minor nibbles on the neck rim, some of which may have occurred during the making process.
