A BRASS BALANCE WHEEL STRIKING LANTERN CLOCKMid 17th Century and laterOf usual form with large bell, four straps and turned finial, above pierced frets, the frame with turned uprights and four finials, the 6 1/4in dial with foliate engraved centre and alarm disc (box fixed), with re-converted balance wheel and countwheel strike39.5cm highCONDITION REPORTRe-converted to balance wheel, so contrate wheel and associated parts also later. Side doors replaced. Back brass panel later. Three frets and their steel screws later. Nut holding bell in place later. Dial plate associated and alarm disc now fixed to dial plate. Hour wheel later, as evidenced by filled earlier pivot hole in frame. Potence end screw and block later. Top plate with additional holes from previous escapements.
