Tony Kelly, c. 1940s, 10 x 8-inch photograph, Signed by the photographer in pencil lower right, Thurlow Place, London, studio stamp on reverse. Paul Tanqueray opened his first London studio in 1925 and as Londons then youngest photographer, he employed an ex-Cambridge graduate as his assistant, Cecil Beaton. Tony Kelly (1921-1953) studied with the Ballet Rambert and later Assistant director. Whilst working on the film Duel in the Jungle (1954) Tony Kelly was killed and taken by a crocodile as he tried to save the camera equipment when the crews boat overturned during shooting footage along the Zambesi River in Rhodesia. His body was never found. (23) Provenance: Brigitte Kelly (stage name, Maria Sanina, 1922-2012) classical ballet dancer and author. Brigitte Kelly studied at Ballet Rambert under the guidance of Madame Marie Rambert, and after a career performing with the Ballet Russes and Anglo-Polish Ballet, Brigitte later worked in films including Moulin Rouge (1952) and on the West End stage performing in The King and I (1953-54). She returned to become director of the Rambert School and at the age of 87 published her book, Mim: a Personal Memoir of Marie Rambert, 2009
