In 1906, he was appointed to the Darmstadt Artists' Colony, where he became the lead architect after Joseph Maria Olbrich's death. A 19th century French brass eight day mantel clock, with pillared step and finial top, silvered dial, winding holes at 4 and 8 and central brass disc and bevelled glass, marked to movement with Japy Freres logo. Height +/- 29 cm, with key (see illustration).The clock is not working; it does have a key and pendulum. The case is generally in good condition for its age. There is tarnish to the edges at the top above the dial on the case and there are some missing sections of gilding, tarnishing and light scratches to the rest of the body.

A 19th century Vincenti & Cie ormolu and painted mantel clock, 4 in. dial, 39cm high.* Winds, runs and strikes when catalogued. Dial good, with some wear to retailer's inscription lettering. Painted finish to the case is crazed and there is some flaking to the upper surfaces on the sides of the clock, just above the dial and to the edges on the lower front. Surface dirt throughout.
